CASPT Tour Options for Thursday July 3
Each tour has a capacity of up to 60 persons and requires prior registration. We ask for 2000 Yen contribution to confirm your space. Lunch and entrance tickets are covered. Please note, that the tours happen at the same time, so you can only participate in one tour. If you want to bring persons not registered for the conference as attendant (regular or student) or as accompanying person, please contact the conference organizer.
Notes: 1) As all tours involve spending considerable time outside and it is likely hot, please bring sufficient amount of water. 2) In case tours need to be cancelled due to bad weather, we will announce it on this webpage.
Tour 1: Mount Hiei; Meeting point and time: 10am at –>Yase Hiezanguchi station; (final stop of Eizan Railway)
We will take the cable car and rope way up Mount Hiei with a view over Kyoto and Biwako Lake. We will visit “The Garden Museum Hiei” https://gmhiei.jp/. It contains a flower garden with famous impressionist art paintings. Lunch will also be provided at the Museum. In the afternoon those interested in hiking can further walk from the Garden Museum to Enryakuji Temple. Return time to Kyoto is therefore flexible.
Tour 2: Kyoto City Tour; Meeting point and time: 9am in front of the –>main gate of Ginkakuji
We will visit famous Japanese cultural world heritage sites in Kyoto city, including Ginkaku-ji temple, Nanzen-ji temple, and Nijo-jo castle. The tour will be using public transport in Kyoto and includes a stroll along the Philosopher’s path. A main part of this tour is also a longer lunch break in a Kyoto style restaurant. The tour is expected to be completed at around 4pm at Nijo-jo castle.
Tour 3: Arashiyama and Takao, Meeting point and time: 11am at –>JR Umahori Station
We meet at JR Umahori Station, in Kameoka, West of Kyoto and will then take a steam train to Arashiyama. From there we will travel by bus to Takao, 10km north of Arashiyama and enjoy a lunch on a river. After lunch there is free time to visit visit Jingo-ji Temple or enjoy the area. We plan to return to JR Saga-Arashiyama station by 4pm.
