CASPT Social-Technical Tour Options for Thursday July 3
Tour 1: Mount Hiei
We will take the cable car and rope way up Mount Hiei with a view over Kyoto and Biwako Lake. We will visit “The Garden Museum Hiei” https://gmhiei.jp/. It contains a flower garden with famous impressionist art paintings. Lunch will also be provided at the Museum. In the afternoon those interested in hiking can further walk from the Garden Museum to Enryakuji Temple.
Tour 2: Kyoto City Tour
We will visit famous Japanese cultural world heritage sites in Kyoto city, including Ginkaku-ji temple, Nanzen-ji temple, and Nijo-jo castle. The tour will be using public transport in Kyoto and includes a stroll along the Lake Biwa canal that has been essential for providing Kyoto City with water and has also been used to provide hydroelectric energy for Kyoto’s tram system. (A main part of this tour is also a longer lunch break in a Kyoto style restaurant.)
Tour 3: Arashiyama and Takao
We meet in Arashiyama, located at the western edge of Kyoto, and will spend some time to explore this area rich with temples, a bamboo forest and known for its scenic beauty. We will then take a steam train to Sagano. From there we will travel by bus to Takao, 10km north of Arashiyama and enjoy a late lunch on a river after a short walk. Those interested can afterwards further explore the Takao area.
